In late 2025 and early 2026, during my trips to Phu Quoc and Danang, I experienced a very special feeling: traveling within my own country yet feeling as if I were abroad.
From the airplane and airport to tourist attractions, shopping malls, supermarkets, and restaurants, international visitors were everywhere. On a domestic flight, almost all passengers were foreigners; I was the only Vietnamese traveler on board, apart from the cabin crew. At the destinations, Vietnamese people appeared only occasionally, mostly as service staff, tour guides, or hotel employees.
This was not a sense of alienation, but rather a deep sense of pride—a clear sign that Vietnam’s tourism industry has truly grown, evolved, and integrated into the global travel map.
Today, Phu Quoc attracts visitors not only with its turquoise sea, white sandy beaches, and breathtaking sunsets, but also with its well-planned and long-term tourism development strategy. Resorts, entertainment complexes, shopping areas, and leisure facilities are developed in an integrated and professional manner, creating a complete tourism ecosystem where visitors can truly relax and enjoy.
Most notably, Phu Quoc has invested heavily in large-scale, international-standard shows and entertainment programs, enriching the nightlife and extending visitors’ length of stay. Combined with 30-day visa-free entry, convenient international flights, and excellent value for money, Phu Quoc has become an ideal winter getaway for travelers from around the world.
While Phu Quoc represents an international-style resort island, Da Nang impresses visitors with its image as a modern, clean, safe, and highly livable city. My Khe Beach, the Han River, iconic bridges, and a well-developed system of hotels, restaurants, and shopping centers create a welcoming and comfortable urban tourism environment.
Beyond being a destination itself, Da Nang also serves as a gateway to Central Vietnam’s cultural heritage sites, making it a preferred long-stay choice for many international travelers.
Speaking of Da Nang, one cannot overlook Ba Na Hills, home to the iconic Golden Bridge. With its cool climate, European-inspired architecture set amid lush mountains, and its all-in-one entertainment, dining, and leisure model, Ba Na Hills offers a truly unique experience.
It is therefore unsurprising that international visitors dominate the site, while Vietnamese people are mostly seen as service staff—clear evidence of Ba Na Hills’ global appeal.
What I witnessed in Phu Quoc and Da Nang is not a temporary trend, but the result of long-term vision and professional tourism development. When international visitors come in large numbers, stay longer, spend more, and return repeatedly, it is the clearest measure of success.
Traveling within Vietnam yet feeling as if one were abroad—this, to me, is the most beautiful compliment for Vietnam’s tourism today.
